About billsrandomthoughts.ca

The purpose of this website is to be an outlet for my writing.

That is not to say that I’m a good writer nor that I have anything to say that will be of great interest to others, but I enjoy writing. And since I do not have a great novel bottled up inside me nor the patience to do the research required to write a non-fiction piece on some major historical event or modern trend, I will be writing mostly about myself and my interests.

I’ll focus on four subjects:

  1. My memoirs because I know more about my history than any other subject and it might be of interest to my sons and grandchildren at some point in their lives
  2. Baseball (and other sports) because it has been a thread running throughout my life
  3. Not-for-profits because I have developed an interest in them through my involvement as the CEO of one and my volunteer involvement in others
  4. Current news and issues because I have always been interested in them and I have reached the stage of life when I have the time to pontificate on them.

I’ve adopted the title “Random Thoughts” because some where along the line I developed the habit of consolidating my thinking on a subject by writing “Random Thoughts on…” memos to my colleagues and clients. They tended to be long and fairly informal and personal for business memos, but I think/hope they outlined the factors that I felt should be considered in making a decision and hopefully helped facilitate making it. While these writings will not have the same purpose, the phrase became a sort of signature of mine, at least in my mind, so I’ve adopted it here.

And finally, a lot of this is my memories and to paraphrase someone, I thought it was Roger Kahn, but I can’t find the reference in any of his seven books I own, “These are my memories and I’m sticking with them” so unless I’ve included a truly grievous error, please don’t inundate me with the correct dates, names or actual facts that could render my memories apocryphal.
